event around me is $350 or so, but that gets me on track for usually 4, 25 minute sessions for 2 days. So I'm paying about $1.75 for each minute on the track. For auto-x, say your average run is 2 minutes (no idea what an auto-x lap is) and you get 8 runs/day for $40; you're paying $2.50 for each minute on the track. Not saying one is better than the other, and there are other variables (time to travel to the track, extra car wear, etc), but when you look at it strictly from a cost to run standpoint, open tracking is actually pretty reasonable cost-wise for the time you actually get on the track.
